Cheech And Chong's Reunion Hey Watch This Reviewed

By Young Butler

Kids of a certain generation all over the world grew up getting in to trouble smoking themselves into hysteria watching movies made by Cheech and Chong. They were a sub culture phenomenon that were instant cult classics and they filled a gap in the market that catered for stoners in their millions. Hey Watch This is a trip down memory lane for fans and has been anticipated for what seems like forever.

You would be forgiven for thinking that they may have lost their spark in all the years that have passed. You may be forgiven but you'd be wrong because the act is as entertaining now as any of their die hard fans will remember. Tommy Chong broached the subject of them not working together and his conclusion was they just got rich. He goes on to state that you can't get a rich Mexican to work and that's why they've done nothing together for so long.

What is refreshing is the performance by Shelby, Tommy's wife who was co-star in the films. She takes the stage in San Antonio where the video was filmed and plays does a great warm up for the men. She could easily have had a solo career on the stage herself had she wanted it.

It's not hard to realise where she may have learned the trade as Tommy is hilarious in front of the crowd. There are some parts of his act if it is an act that will have you rolling with laughter. It's hard not to divulge some of the funnier moments but you will without doubt find it funny in the extreme.

Without going in to detail, Tommy's tales of when he was but in jail for selling bong pipes are definitely not to be missed. He certainly has some interesting views on the legal system and the way in which judges operate. His take on the book of creation from the bible is refreshingly original and can only be put down to years of drug use.

Cheech is also very funny with his own brand of comedy and has his own moments on stage just like Tommy. He plays his routines that we first saw all those years ago live on stage to a rapturous applause from the audience.

They are both very entertaining but they are surely at their best when they are together in front of the fans. It's tragic that they have not done more together as the public have been missing out. Let's hope they carry on with this and maybe take it to more cities outside of Texas. They would easily fill similarly huge venues everywhere with their rare appeal.

There is no doubt that they are both gifted comedians that have a connection with their fans. They are not going to be everyone's cup of tea because of their pro-drug views. But at the same time that's why they are so popular too. They have a unique appeal and can be considered the grandparents of controversial comedy. Hey Watch This may not be full of new stuff but it is timeless in it's genre and it's got to be worth watching. - 40730
